Cable Gland is a compact mechanical device used in conjunction with electrical power cables & wires installation. Its main function is to act as a sealing and terminating device to ensure the protection of electrical equipment and enclosures.
The use of cable gland becomes multi-dimensional as it ensures environmental protection, earth continuity and holding force on the cable. It helps in excluding dust and moisture from the electrical or instrument enclosure by sealing on the outer cable sheath. In the case of armoured cables, cable glands may be tested to ensure that they can tolerate an appropriate peak short circuit fault current. It provides holding force on the cable to ensure adequate levels of mechanical cable ‘pull out ‘resistance.
